"Hey guys, Andres here at the Big Video Test Kitchen. What's up? Today we're going to talk about out-of-the-box care for your Baking Steel Griddle. Thank you for purchasing this piece. It is heavy, as you can see. We've actually pre-seasoned this on both sides, but we'd like to give it a little bit more seasoning.

First, we're going to give it a wipe down. Get a damp paper towel or a towel, and just wipe it down quickly. Then, I'm going to take the griddle and throw it on our burners. We have a gas stove top here, but if you have induction, electric, or gas, it works for all of them.

I've got it preheated, and I'm moving it. I love this Spectrum canola oil, by the way—a little product placement. Gotta preheat it. I'm going to spray a little bit of oil on here, and then take my paper towels and literally just wipe it in, just like this. Coat this thing.

I'm going to turn my burners off now. This is what I like to do every time I clean my griddle. I go through the same exact steps. The heat helps it dry underneath, so we know we have a dry griddle. Now, I have an oiled griddle. This thing is protected and ready to rock and roll for future use. But again, you cannot oil this thing enough. Highly stress that.

Thanks, and good cooking!"

The Story Behind Baking Steel

The Baking Steel was born out of a passion for pizza and a family legacy in steel manufacturing. Inspired by an article on Modernist Cuisine and driven by the limitations of traditional baking stones, the creator experimented with steel to achieve restaurant-quality pizza at home. The result was a game-changing product, that inspired a host of other quality steel-based products, that has since been embraced by home cooks and professional chefs alike.
