Joe Rogan Inspired Pizza: Anchovies, Pineapple, and the Spirit of Innovation - Baking Steel ®

Joe Rogan’s Pineapple and Anchovy Pizza Recipe

What Joe Rogan Said About Pizza

It started as just another podcast listen. Joe Rogan was chatting with Elon Musk about life, technology, and everything in between when the conversation took a delicious detour. Out of nowhere, Rogan revealed his love for a bold pizza topping combo: double anchovies + double pineapple.

Sweet, salty, polarizing  it’s the kind of pizza that divides the internet. They even ordered one live on the show, and the clip quickly made its way to TikTok.

And like any curious home pizzaiolo, I thought: If Rogan and Musk are brave enough to try it, I have to make it too, on my Baking Steel.

Why Pineapple + Anchovies?

Anchovies bring an intense briny saltiness. Pineapple brings a juicy, tart sweetness. Together, it’s a salty-sweet umami bomb. Some call it genius, some call it a crime but either way, it’s unforgettable.

How to Recreate Rogan’s Pizza at Home

Here’s exactly how I made this pizza in my home oven using the Baking Steel Original.

Step 1: The Dough

I used our 72 Hour Dough Recipe  because if you’re going to make something this wild, the base has to be perfect. After balling, I let the dough rest at room temp for about 3 hours.

Step 2: The Sauce + Toppings

  • Crushed tomatoes (2 tbsp spread evenly)

  • Mozzarella (a mix of low-moisture + fresh)

  • Anchovies (salty, briny punch)

  • Pineapple chunks (sweet contrast)

Step 3: The Bake

I preheated my oven to 500°F for a full hour with the Baking Steel inside. When the dough hit that scorching surface, the crust puffed, charred, and crisped in minutes.

Verdict: Is Pineapple + Anchovy Pizza Actually Good?

Surprisingly… yes. The chewy crust, salty anchovies, and bursts of pineapple balanced in a way I didn’t expect. Bold? Absolutely. Worth trying? 100%.

If nothing else, it reminded me why I love experimenting in the kitchen: pizza is about play, curiosity, and sometimes chaos.
