Today, I'm bringing you another one of my unique pizza recipes – and a story along with it. This is about how a casual podcast listen turned into a culinary quest, all within the cozy confines of my kitchen.
The Spark of Inspiration
Let me set the scene: I'm chilling, with Joe Rogan's podcast playing in the background - a usual slice of my day. This time, he has Elon Musk, the visionary of modern tech, electric cars, spaceships, underground tunnel transportation, come on as a guest, and things take an unexpected turn. They’re unpacking life's big questions when Joe shares his love for a unique pizza topping combo: double anchovies and double pineapple.
The mix of intense saltiness with a sweet kick caught Elon's interest. In a turn that shows just how spontaneous life can be, they decide to place an order right then and there. And it’s not just any pizza they’re after but an extra-large one, boldly covered with the two probably most polarizing pizza toppings.
The moment was so surreal, it made its way to TikTok - check out their encounter and witness the pizza in all its glory there! At first, I chuckled at the audacity. But then I thought, "Hey, if it's good enough for two geniuses, it's good enough for my Baking Steel!" So, in a spark of inspiration fueled by Joe and Elon, I decided to recreate this controversial masterpiece.
The Adventure Begins
Armed with my Baking Steel Original and a big appetite, I went to create my own version of this pizza. I fired up my home oven - the ultimate pizza-making arena - and got down to business. Let me walk you through the magic, step by step:
Step 1: The Dough
I started with our 72 Hour Dough, after i ball it up i let it rest for 3 hours at room temperature. A pizza's soul lies in its base, after all. I am not messing around, i think our 72 hour dough recipe is as good as it gets.
Step 2: The Toppings
Then came the stars of the show - anchovies and pineapple. The anchovies, salty and briny, paired with the sweet, tart pineapple created a contrasting flavor profile that could only be described as daringly cool and tasty.
After the dough is stretched, add about 2 tbsp of crushed tomatoes and distribute evenly, Next add your cheese, we used low moisture mozzarella and fresh mozzarella.
Step 3: The Bake
With my Baking Steel Original inside, i crank my oven to 500 F for an hour before i launch. I want all that heat to absorb inside my Steel, so when this pizza hits that scorching hot Steel, magic will be made.
The Moment of Truth
As I took that first bite, the flavors danced a tango on my taste buds. The savory fish, the bursts of pineapple, the chewy crust - it was a harmony of tastes too bold to ignore. And just like that, a homemade pineapple and anchovy pizza inspired by Joe Rogan’s podcast was born in my kitchen. So, what’s my verdict? After a slice (or three), I'm convinced: Pineapple and anchovy pizza deserves a spot on your plate. It’s a yes from me!
Why This Pizza Is More Than Just a Meal
To be honest with you, this wasn't just about making pineapple and anchovy pizza. It was about the thrill of creation, the joy of experimentation. It was my way of enjoying the simple pleasures that we sometimes overlook. I believe that every slice tells a story, and this one was about curiosity, inspiration, and the courage to try something new - a unique pizza recipe cooked to perfection on a Baking Steel.
